January 2024 Newsletter!

Greetings All –

What a start to 2024! Winter came in with a roar after Christmas and seems to be enjoying itself here. I hope that you are trying to enjoy it as well! I like the cold bluebird days and the levity of the brightness each snowflake creates; I don’t love the traveling on slippery roads bits.

The market gets a bit quiet this time of year…we do a lot in the background to make sure that the season is as seamless and fluid as possible. Things like end of year reporting, scheduling our children’s events, adjusting the application, lining up contracts, brainstorming sponsorships, lining up musicians, updating marketing and getting EXCITED about warmer days ahead filled with produce and flowers and sunshine.

Our market application will be available on the website sometime in February – if you or someone you know is interested in attending our market as a new vendor – check it out!

We have a few events coming up that I would like to bring to your attention!
Would love to see you out in the community again soon.

Indoor Pop Up markets at the Depot: these will all be on SUNDAYS from 11-3:30
February 18
March 17
April 14

CSA Fair:
February 25th @ Agricole from 10-2
Come and meet your new farmer! CSA fairs are a model designed to help facilitate relationships between local farms and community members. CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture and is a model designed to mitigate inherent risks for the farmer and provide the highest quality and freshest produce to the consumer…YOU! A CSA Fair is the perfect way for you to “speed date” to your farm share. Each model is a little different, so come on out to learn about our local producers!

Heartsaver Adult, Child and Infant CPR and AED training:
February 25th, April 9th, May 9th and June 9th
Join in learning how to navigate any emergency situation. We know that quality CPR saves lives!
This American Heart Association Heartsaver class is designed for new parents, educators, and anyone who spends time in the community and around people. The class comes with a CPR certification card to take to your place of employment or to have for your own records (after passing a skills test).

Mental Health First Aid:
January 30th and 31st from 4-7:30pm at the Chelsea Hospital – see image
Learn how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges among adults. This training is geared for anyone 18+ and is free.
*There is a 2 hour self paced online course as a prerequisite to the in person sessions.

That is all for now my dear community members! We are looking forward to seeing you all out and about in the coming months!

Best,
Emily + Angie

In other news…

Volunteers: we are looking for volunteers to help run our children’s programs with the guidance of Angie. This is the perfect opportunity for those who adore children and love the market. We don’t necessarily need a weekly commitment from any SINGLE person, but rather a speckling of dates for perhaps a handful to spread the love. Connect with us if you are interested!

Sponsorships: we are so grateful to the community at large and our local businesses for the continued support of our programming and supplies, events and marketing. If you are interested in becoming a sponsor of the market click here to help support our efforts today. This funding goes toward things like new marketing materials, children’s tent activities, music and more! You can always earmark what you would like to see that money go toward.

-Have an event that you would like us to promote for you that has to do with food/farming/mental health/physical health and wellness or community events? Let us know!
